Target has addressed a Black History Month magnet book sold in its stores that mislabeled historic Black figures.
In a now-viral TikTok video, @Issatete pointed out how photos of historic Black figures had the wrong names in a magnet-style learning activity book called "Civil Rights" that she purchased at a local Target.
Video shows a picture of civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois wrongly labeled as Carter G. Woodson in the book. Du Bois' name was also wrongly labeled on a picture of educator and author Booker T. Washington. In another instance, Washington was named on a picture of Woodson.
The TikToker, who noted she was a U.S. history teacher, said she immediately noticed the mix-ups. She called on Target to pull the book from its shelves.
Social media users slammed Target and Bendon, the book's publisher, for mislabeling the prominent Black figures.
Target responded to the backlash in a statement to TMZ saying, "We will no longer be selling this product in stores or online. We’ve also ensured the product's publisher is aware of the errors."
The book's publisher hasn't publicly commented on the errors.
