Michael Jordan Opens Second Health Clinic To Help Underinsured Communities

Michael Jordan has teamed up with Novant Health to open his second health clinic in the Charlotte area. The Charlotte Hornets owner's new health clinic will work to service underinsure and uninsured families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Located in the city's North End area, the 6,800-square-foot clinic will feature X-rays, patient rooms and and space for physical therapy.

This is Jordan's second health clinic in the area. Last year, he opened the doors to the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic. During the pandemic, the facility has held more than 12,500 appointments and 14,000 COVID-19 tests. Beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, the clinic has assisted more than 3,000 patients.

“We are thrilled the North End community of Charlotte will have access to the same comprehensive care that is transforming lives at the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic in west Charlotte,” Novant Health CEO Carl Armato said.

“The impact of the first clinic has been measurable and if COVID-19 has taught us anything, it is the importance of having accessible, safe and quality care in communities that need it most."

Impoverished Black and brown communities like those within Charlotte have been hit the hardest during the pandemic. Earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control found that pregnant Black and Latinx women are more likely to contract the virus. Another report from the National Urban League and the University of Minnesota found that Black people were more likely to contract COVID-19 than white Americans.

“When we came together to mark the first clinic’s opening last fall, no one could have predicted we would be facing a global pandemic just five months later,” Jordan said.

“I’m so proud of the positive impact our clinic has had on the community so far, especially during COVID-19. Our second clinic will provide critical services to improve the health and lives of more Charlotteans, which is so important to me and to Novant Health.”
